Our favourite Spring cleaning hacks

The clocks have sprung forward, the nights are lighter, and the weather is certainly on the up – Spring has finally arrived, hooray!

And for many homeowners, landlords and tenants, the new season means one thing – it’s time for a good old Spring clean.

To get you in the mood, here are some of our favourite cleaning hacks…

Cleaning bins

It may not be the most glamorous of jobs, but with this hack, we guarantee it’ll be less off-putting – and you may even have to do it a whole lot less.

Simply clean your bin with disinfectant as usual, then douse a piece of kitchen roll in the spray and leave it at the bottom of the bin. This will leave it smelling fresh, even when it’s full!

Dusting radiators

They can often go by unnoticed in our usual housework routines, but radiators are a prime spot for gathering dust and grime.

Our top tip to keep them fresh during your Spring clean? Use a diluted disinfectant mix – such as Zoflora – with a dust cloth and simply wipe them down. Not only will this get rid of any dirt, but next time your heating is on they’ll radiate a glorious smell, too.

Freshening up plants (even the fake ones!)

Some of you may have spotted this hack from Instagram’s very own cleaning queen Mrs Hinch before. To keep both your real and artificial plants smelling fresh and dust-free all year round, simply use a tumble dryer sheet to wipe away any dirt that’s built up on the leaves. It’ll keep them smelling fresh as a daisy – even if they’re not real!

Cleaning doors

Reluctant to wash your newly painted doors for fear of stripping the paint? Fear no more – another of Mrs Hinch’s top tips is to mix fabric conditioner with water to wipe down doors. The smooth mix will get rid of marks without damaging your paintwork.

Removing pet hair

Those of you with pets will know that sometimes, the hoover just isn’t strong enough. But when that doesn’t do the job, there’s a very simple solution – rubber gloves! That’s right, just slide them on and rub down any surfaces that are particularly furry such as sofas and cushions. When the rubber is pushed against the fabric, it can generate elasticity to gather remaining hair.

When you’re done, simply rinse the gloves under running water and anything you’ve collected will run off.

Dusting blinds

Let’s be honest, we’ve all put off some cleaning jobs because they’re too fiddly. Dusting blinds is a prime example of that – with multiple sizes, shapes, heights and lengths to contend with, to say it’s a monotonous task would be an understatement.

But it’s time to say goodbye to long slogs in front of the window – take 50/50 vinegar and water mixture with an old clean sock on your hand (yep, like a sock puppet), and simply swipe it over each section. Any embedded dust and dirt will come off in no time.

We’d love to hear your top Spring cleaning tips – head over to our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages to share. Happy cleaning!
